Tesla Cybercab prototype could feature NACS port for flexible charging
Observers have spotted a panel on the Tesla Cybercab prototype that could indicate the presence of a physical charging port. According to these observers, this panel might conceal an NACS port, which would provide the autonomous two-seat electric vehicle with a backup method for recharging, even if wireless infrastructure is not yet fully deployed.
During its 2024 presentation, Tesla stated that the Cybercab would utilize wireless charging, though the company has not yet specified a timeline for the system's rollout. With production expected to begin in just a few months, having a conventional port would allow the Cybercab to charge immediately on the nationwide Supercharger network, independent of wireless stations.
This approach does not eliminate wireless charging for the future but adds flexibility for widespread use. For an autonomous vehicle designed for continuous operation, such backup solutions appear practical.
Previously, a Cybercab prototype was also seen in Chicago. The vehicle was covered in dirt, but the rear camera area looked cleaner, and there were water marks on the trunk lid. This could suggest the inclusion of a camera washer—a feature Tesla owners have long requested, especially for snowy and wet regions.
