Mercedes GLE 350 de diesel hybrid production to cease in 2026
Production of the diesel powertrain for the GLE 350 de 4MATIC will cease in August 2026, affecting both the current-generation GLE crossover and its coupe variant. Many dealerships will stop taking new orders for these models in the coming days.
With the end of diesel hybrid versions, the GLE lineup marks the conclusion of an efficient transitional technology between conventional combustion engines and electric vehicles. The GLE 350 de 4MATIC combined a four-cylinder diesel engine with an electric motor, delivering low fuel consumption and impressive long-distance range.
This production halt coincides with the upcoming update to the GLE model. Mercedes-Benz plans to unveil the refreshed GLE crossover and coupe in May 2026.
Whether a diesel plug-in hybrid will continue after the lineup update remains uncertain. Current information suggests it is unlikely that the company will continue producing the 350 de 4MATIC or a similar diesel PHEV in the revised series. The brand's strategy clearly focuses on electrified gasoline engines, plug-in hybrids with combustion engines, and fully electric vehicles on the EVA and MMA platforms.
