Volkswagen Tayron R-Line: new flagship SUV with 7 seats and advanced features
Volkswagen has re-entered the large three-row SUV segment in India with the launch of Tayron R-Line production at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant. This flagship model is set to hit the market by March 2026, positioning itself as a direct competitor to the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
What is the Tayron R-Line?
Built on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron is essentially an enlarged, seven-seat version of the Tiguan R-Line. Its wheelbase has been extended by 109 mm to 2,789 mm, which allowed for the integration of a third row of seats and more passenger space. Under the hood, it features a proven 2.0 TSI engine producing 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive.
Externally, the Tayron retains the overall design lines of the Tiguan but receives updated lighting elements that emphasize its flagship status.
Interior and Features
The Tayron R-Line's interior focuses on comfort, offering ventilated front seats, a 15-inch central display, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, 30-color ambient lighting, and an expected three-zone climate control system. In terms of technology, this model significantly surpasses the previous Tiguan All-Space.
Safety features include seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring, an electronic parking brake, and a Level 2 ADAS suite. This puts the model on par with its key competitors in the segment.
What the Tayron R-Line Means for the Market
The Tayron R-Line fills the niche left by the departure of the Tiguan All-Space, bringing Volkswagen back into the competition for buyers of large family SUVs. Local assembly in India is expected to keep the price around 50 lakhs, making the newcomer competitive in one of the market's most dynamic segments.
