Tesla Ride lets drivers try FSD Supervised and Grok AI
Tesla has launched Tesla Ride, a new program that lets anyone get hands-on with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology and the Grok AI. Aimed at everyday motorists, it puts people behind the wheel of a Tesla to sample what feels like tomorrow’s driver assistance in real-world conditions.
Under the program, the participant sits in the driver’s seat while a Tesla advisor rides shotgun as a guide. The advisor helps make sense of the FSD interface, walks through the driver-assistance features and comfort systems, and keeps the session on track. During the drive, participants can also interact with Grok, which answers questions and even spins a story or two along the way.
Each session lasts up to 45 minutes and requires a valid driver’s license and insurance. Tesla Ride is available in several U.S. states, including California, Nevada, Michigan, and Virginia, and will run through the end of December 2025.
The company emphasizes that FSD Supervised does not make the car fully autonomous. Senior Vice President Tom Zhu noted that the guiding principle remains the same: the system’s primary job is to avoid a crash; even if lane markings are off or, as he half-joked, a UFO appears, the car should still bring the driver to safety.
What stands out is that Tesla isn’t just touting features—it’s inviting people to live with them, if only for a short drive. Tesla Ride turns a routine test drive into a guided, interactive glimpse of what’s next, a cockpit experience shared by human judgment and machine intelligence.
