Genesis vehicle recall due to software issue affecting instrument cluster

Genesis has announced a major recall affecting 83,877 vehicles in the United States, following the discovery of a software glitch that can cause the digital instrument cluster and multimedia screen to shut down while driving. The issue affects 2025–2026 models and has been deemed critical for safety.

The Problem and Its Cause

According to NHTSA data cited by SPEEDME journalists, under certain conditions the system may reboot or go dark for up to 10 seconds. During this time, the driver loses display of speed, range, fuel level, and warning signals. This detail matters because it highlights how a momentary blackout can compromise essential driving information.

The problem stems from a logic flaw in the software, where procedures for processing analog and HD radio data share a common memory area. This creates a write conflict, leading to the temporary disappearance of the display.

Affected Models

The recall covers the G80 (2025–2026), G80 Electrified (2026), GV60 (2026), GV70 and GV70 Electrified (2026), and GV80 (2025–2026). Genesis has recorded 237 owner complaints, but no accidents or injuries have been reported.

Update and Owner Recommendations

The company is preparing a software update, scheduled for release in early to mid-March. Owners can have the fix installed at a dealership or via over-the-air update, if their vehicle supports it.
