Volkswagen UK’s ID. Promise lets buyers return EVs in 80–100 days

Volkswagen has decided to give fence-sitters a safety net on the road to electric. In the UK, the brand has launched the ID. Promise program, which lets buyers return their EV within 80 to 100 days of purchase if they decide electric motoring isn’t for them.

The offer runs from November 3, 2025 to March 31, 2026 and covers the brand’s entire electric lineup—from the compact ID.3 to the flagship ID.7 Tourer. Corporate and demonstrator vehicles are excluded.

To hand a car back, customers simply notify their retailer within the set window. Volkswagen will repurchase the vehicle, deducting 3% of the price for usage and charging for any damage. The program applies to both cash purchases and PCP finance deals.

Volkswagen UK managing director Rod McLeod said the initiative is meant to ease the anxiety of first-time EV adopters. He noted that owners who switch to electric generally don’t return to petrol, although many need time to reach that conclusion.

The program covers the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer, with prices from £36,000 to £52,000. It’s a confident stance: if living with an EV doesn’t suit, customers can simply bring the car back. Such a policy is rare in the car industry and signals the brand’s faith in its technology. For hesitant buyers, a clear 80–100‑day window removes excuses and lets daily routines—not brochures—make the case.
