Acura 2027 RSX EV: first model on Honda 0 Series platform

Acura is gearing up for a major reboot in the electric vehicle segment. Following the unsuccessful ZDX, which failed to find an audience, the brand is introducing the 2027 RSX—its first EV built not on a GM platform, but on Honda's own architecture. This model will be the first of the 0 Series family and the first electric Acura manufactured in the United States, at the company's new EV hub in Ohio.

The RSX is built on the Honda 0 Series platform, featuring a lightweight design that incorporates megacasting, a structural battery, and optimized aerodynamics. Acura is betting on high efficiency and extended range, though exact specifications, including battery capacity, remain undisclosed. The architecture supports 800-volt systems, although this technology might be delayed for initial models.

The car sports a sleek silhouette with a coupe-like profile, evoking the spirit of the Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y. While the interior hasn't been revealed, Acura has confirmed the new Asimo OS infotainment system, which boasts deep AI functions, natural voice control, and full over-the-air updates.

Under the hood, the RSX launches with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. In test mules, Honda claimed a single motor output of up to 241 horsepower, theoretically pushing the RSX's maximum combined power to around 480 horsepower, though the final figure will be limited by battery capabilities. Hardware features include a double-wishbone front suspension and Brembo front brakes, hinting at a driver-focused approach.

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) support will allow powering external devices, while a standard NACS port ensures compatibility with Tesla's charging infrastructure. The RSX's dimensions will place it close to the Model Y and Mach-E, a logical move for competing in this key segment.

Production is set to start in 2026, with sales beginning in the second half of the year. The RSX will arrive ahead of its platform-mates, the Honda 0 Series SUV and 0 Series Saloon, the latter now pushed to 2027. Pricing hasn't been announced, but it's expected to fall below the ZDX's $66,000 threshold, which should restore Acura's competitiveness in the EV class.
