Ford dealers push for affordable SUV and sedan in U.S. lineup
Ford dealers in the U.S. believe the brand's lineup is missing at least two vehicles: an affordable SUV and a sedan capable of competing with imported models. This view was expressed by Steve Blazinger, chairman of the Ford National Dealer Council, in an interview with Automotive News.
Dealer representatives note that Ford holds strong positions in the pickup, commercial vehicle, and SUV segments. However, with high prices becoming a concern, buyers are increasingly looking for more affordable options.
In recent years, Ford has discontinued several affordable models in North America, including its entire sedan lineup. The company later also removed the Ford Edge, Ford Escape, and Lincoln Corsair from the market.
Ford CEO Jim Farley previously explained that the decision to drop sedans was due to these models being unprofitable for the company. At the same time, he acknowledged the possibility of a sedan returning in the future, noting that the market remains active and demand persists.
It is also reported that Ford plans to launch five new affordable models by 2030, with four of them to be produced in the U.S. Among the projects is a mid-size electric pickup on a Universal Platform, set to begin production in 2027 with a target price around $30,000.
