BMW cuts fleet emissions by 9.5% in 2025, driven by electrification

According to preliminary internal calculations, BMW's fleet emissions reached 90.0 grams per kilometer under the WLTP cycle in 2025, down from 99.5 grams per kilometer in 2024. This represents an approximate 9.5% reduction in emissions compared to the previous year.

The European Union had set a target of 92.9 grams per kilometer for the BMW Group in 2025. The company exceeded this target by 2.9 grams, demonstrating strong performance against regulatory benchmarks.

Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, noted that in 2025, BMW once again surpassed Europe's ambitious CO2 reduction targets without relying on flexibility mechanisms or pooling arrangements. He emphasized that the company's technology-neutral approach and systematic CO2 reduction efforts are complementary, not contradictory. Zipse highlighted that the efficiency of all drive technologies offered to customers is the decisive factor in achieving these results.

The ongoing electrification of the BMW Group was a key driver in reducing fleet emissions last year. In 2025, the company delivered over 316,000 electrified vehicles to customers in the European Union. Electrified vehicles accounted for 41.1% of BMW Group sales in the EU last year, showing significant growth in market penetration.

Within that electrified segment, BMW sold more than 202,000 fully electric vehicles in the European Union in 2025. This figure represents about 26.3% of the company's total sales volume in the region, underscoring the rapid adoption of battery-electric models.

Overall, the reduction in fleet emissions supports the BMW Group's progress toward its long-term climate goals. The company is implementing a comprehensive decarbonization strategy across the entire vehicle lifecycle, with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions no later than 2050.
