2026 Ford Expedition changes: fewer standard features, new options

Just one year after a major redesign, Ford is already tweaking the equipment on its flagship SUV. For the 2026 model year, the Ford Expedition has lost some previously standard features, with four-way adjustable headrests being one of the most noticeable changes. While these headrests came standard on all Expedition trims—from the base Active to the top-tier King Ranch—in 2025, that's no longer the case.

In the entry-level Expedition Active Select trim, they've been replaced by simpler two-way headrests that only adjust for height. The ability to move the headrests forward and backward for the driver and passengers is no longer available in the base model. However, Ford hasn't completely abandoned four-way headrests. They remain standard on the Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch versions.

You can still get them on the base Active trim, but only as part of the Active Touring package, which adds $3,130 to the vehicle's price.

A similar approach applies to other comfort features. The power-adjustable steering column is no longer standard on the Active Select and is only available either as part of a package or on higher trims. Meanwhile, the wireless smartphone charger has disappeared entirely from the 2026 Expedition configurator, making it unavailable for order regardless of trim level.

Against this backdrop of reductions, Ford has added a few new touches. For the first time, the Expedition offers a black-painted roof for a trendy two-tone look, along with an expanded safety package with features integrated into the FordPass app.

Prices continue to climb. The 2026 Ford Expedition starts at $62,400 before delivery, making the changes to standard equipment particularly impactful for buyers of base versions. Ford is increasingly showing a trend: prices are rising while base trims gradually lose comfort features, nudging buyers toward more expensive packages.
