Best electric cars by category from Consumer Reports study
The experts at the well-known publication Consumer Reports have conducted a comprehensive study of the electric car market and compiled a list of the best models by category. Let's take a closer look at each category.
Sedans
Consumer Reports highlighted two models worth noting in the sedan segment:
- Hyundai Ioniq 6: This model stands out for its high-quality ride characteristics and driving comfort. However, it's worth noting the small trunk volume, which somewhat limits cargo-carrying capabilities.
- Tesla Model 3: Despite its high acceleration speed and fast battery charging, this model has some drawbacks, such as complicated turn signal controls and a lack of integration with popular automotive platforms CarPlay and Android Auto.
Premium Sedans
Among premium sedan options, two models were noted:
- BMW i4/i5: These cars attract attention with their stylish design, but the rear seats proved insufficiently spacious, and the vehicle's interface causes difficulties for users.
- Porsche Taycan: After an update to this model, the driving range was increased, making it even more attractive. Nevertheless, the problem remains with the limited space in the rear row.
Mass-Market Crossovers
Here, two particularly interesting options stand out:
- Ford Mustang Mach-E: This car is distinguished by its attractive appearance and excellent handling level. This crossover is oriented more toward sporty driving, so it demonstrates good maneuverability and dynamic movement.
- Chevrolet Equinox EV: This model has become an economical solution thanks to its relatively low cost. Its features include a well-thought-out driver assistance system called Super Cruise, borrowed from the Chevrolet Bolt, which ensures safety even in complex road conditions.
Premium Crossovers
The experts at Consumer Reports also noted two best premium-class models among SUVs:
- Lexus RZ: The advantages of this model include an affordable price and a traditional appearance that will appeal to conservative buyers. However, the small driving range remains a significant drawback.
- BMW iX: The car is attractive with its elite appearance and luxurious interior trim, although the pricing policy of this model is far from democratic and may deter some buyers.
Pickups
In the pickup and commercial vehicle category, the only recommended model was the Ford F-150 Lightning. Despite improvements in ride smoothness and increased battery lifespan, the pickup faced problems with the braking system and a not very convenient multimedia system.
Thus, the presented data allows us to conclude that the electric vehicle market today is rich in interesting models of different classes and segments, each of which has its own unique advantages and features.
