Singer and Red Bull enhance Porsche 911 964 handling with carbon fiber

Singer Vehicle Design and Red Bull Advanced Technologies have revealed the results of their collaboration on restored Porsche 911 Type 964 models in Cabriolet and Targa versions. The project aimed to bring the open-top models' handling closer to that of the coupe by increasing body stiffness.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies is part of the Red Bull Technology Group, focusing on high-performance engineering solutions, including those for motorsport. Singer, founded in California in 2009, specializes in custom restorations of air-cooled Porsche 911s, blending original foundations with modern technology.

The process starts with a complete teardown of the car down to the steel body. The 964 chassis was then digitized using scanning and manual measurements. Using finite element analysis, engineers compared the stiffness of coupe and open-top versions, identifying areas most prone to torsional flex.

Thirteen carbon-fiber reinforcements were developed to address this. Their purpose is to strengthen critical points without altering the original design or adding significant weight. The reinforcements are bonded directly into the body. After the work, torsional stiffness increased by 175% for both the Cabriolet and Targa.

The company notes that this improvement enhances cornering precision, braking response, and the overall sense of control. This project was carried out under the Singer Classic Turbo program, which takes inspiration from the 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo.
