Subaru begins hybrid vehicle production at Indiana plant

Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) has begun producing hybrid vehicles. The first 2026 Forester Hybrid Premium in Autumn Green Metallic has rolled off one of the plant's assembly lines.

Scott Brand, President and Chief Operating Officer of SIA, explained that the company has been working for five years to establish hybrid vehicle assembly at the facility. He described the start of mass production as a major achievement resulting from the hard work of employees.

The Forester is Subaru's first hybrid vehicle manufactured in the United States. Additionally, SIA began production of the gasoline-powered 2026 Forester on October 7, 2025.

The gasoline 2026 Subaru Forester comes in six trims: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring, and Wilderness. The Subaru Forester Hybrid is available in Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trims.

Every 2026 Forester is equipped with the latest generation Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist technology. This includes advanced active safety systems such as enhanced adaptive cruise control with lane centering, adaptive headlights, and high beam assist.
