Yangwang U9 Xtreme posts 6:59.157 Nürburgring EV record

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric supercar has set a new benchmark on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the lap in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds. It is the first electric car to conquer the Green Hell in under seven minutes, with German racer Moritz Kranz at the wheel.

Developed by China’s BYD, the U9 Xtreme uses four electric motors with a combined output of about 2,210 kW—over 3,000 hp. Built on a 1,200-volt architecture, the car recently reached 496.22 km/h at the Papenburg proving ground, underscoring its extreme performance focus.

Only 30 examples are planned. This lap time positions the U9 Xtreme among the most dynamic modern EVs and underscores the ambition of Chinese brands to compete globally in the sports-car space. Breaking the seven-minute barrier doesn’t just read well on a spec sheet—it signals that this package brings serious grip and staying power, not merely straight-line fireworks.
