Mercedes-AMG unveils 1,000-horsepower electric SUV coupe for 2027

Mercedes-AMG is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a third model: a high-performance coupe-crossover boasting over 1,000 horsepower. This new vehicle is set to launch in 2027 and will share its platform and powertrain architecture with an upcoming AMG super-SUV.

What We Know About the New AMG SUV Coupe

According to Autocar, the decision to introduce a coupe variant stems from SUVs accounting for more than half of AMG's global sales. The model will be built on the AMG.EA platform, which will also underpin the flagship electric super-SUV and the production version of the GT XX concept.

All three models will feature a next-generation battery with round cells, an 800-volt electrical architecture, and a three-motor powertrain: one on the front axle and two at the rear. In the GT XX prototype, this setup delivered up to 1,341 horsepower, setting expectations for the production SUV Coupe to exceed 1,000 horsepower.

AMG's Strategic Shift and Leadership Change

AMG CEO Michael Schiebe emphasized a strategy to double down on SUVs, citing global demand for premium crossovers as a logical driver for expanding the lineup toward powerful electric SUVs, including a sporty coupe variant.

Simultaneously, a leadership transition is underway: Schiebe is moving to head the Mercedes-Benz Top End Vehicle Group, overseeing Maybach and G-class, while Stefan Winkelmann will take over as CEO of AMG starting July 1.

The arrival of a 1,000-horsepower AMG SUV Coupe sets a new benchmark for premium electric crossovers. This model will compete with future Porsche EVs and strengthen AMG's position as a maker of high-performance electric vehicles.
