Zeekr 7GT faces update gap between Europe and China markets

Zeekr finds itself in a situation that's becoming increasingly common as Chinese electric vehicles enter the European market. The brand recently unveiled the Zeekr 7GT in Europe, but almost simultaneously, it introduced a significantly updated version of the same model in China. This highlights the gap in update cycles between the two regions.

In China, the model is known as the Zeekr 007 GT and has already undergone major technical changes. Meanwhile, the European version, which is just gearing up for sales, launches with specifications that are already considered outdated in China. Externally, the updated 007 GT looks nearly identical to the earlier model, maintaining the silhouette of a sporty wagon. Dimensions vary by version, ranging from 4,858 to 4,880 mm in length, with a width of 1,900 mm, height from 1,445 to 1,460 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,925 mm. Wheel options include 19-inch and 20-inch sizes with 245/45 R19 and 255/40 R20 tires.

The key changes lie under the body. The European Zeekr 7GT, in rear-wheel-drive form, produces 310 kW, or 421 horsepower. In contrast, the updated Chinese version of the same configuration delivers 370 kW, equivalent to 496 horsepower. The difference is even more pronounced in all-wheel-drive variants. Europe's model claims a total output of 475 kW, or 646 horsepower, while the Chinese version after the update reaches 585 kW, or 784 horsepower.

Beyond the power increase, the domestic market model features a 900-volt electrical architecture and a new driver-assistance system based on the NVIDIA DRIVE Thor-U chip. The European car, however, is equipped with earlier hardware.

In China, the Zeekr 007 GT offers a CLTC range of 585 to 825 km and is priced from 202,900 to 232,900 yuan, roughly equivalent to 29,200 to 33,600 euros. The European Zeekr 7GT lineup includes three trims with clear premium positioning. The base Core RWD version is priced at 45,990 euros, the Long Range RWD Launch Edition at 50,990 euros, and the top Privilege AWD Launch Edition with air suspension, enhanced brakes, and expanded equipment at 57,490 euros.

Overall, the Zeekr 7GT situation underscores a structural challenge for Chinese EVs entering Europe. While the model in China has already taken a technological step forward, the European market receives a version that is technically new but effectively lags behind the current spec. This poses a risk to brand perception, as buyers of premium electric vehicles expect maximum relevance for years ahead, not the realization that a more advanced version exists even before deliveries begin.
