Slate Auto's affordable electric pickup: specs, price, and features

American startup Slate Auto is preparing to produce one of the most affordable electric pickups. Scheduled for launch in late 2026, the model is being developed as a utilitarian EV based on the "Blank Slate" principle—minimal factory options, with everything else installed by the owner or partner services. The base version will feature unpainted panels, manual windows, and no multimedia system, which helps keep the price around $25,000.

The pickup is equipped with a rear motor delivering 201 hp and will be available with two battery options: a 52.7 kWh unit offering a range of about 150 miles and an 84.3 kWh version with up to 240 miles of range. Charging via the NACS port reaches 120 kW, enabling a 20% to 80% recharge in half an hour.

Its dimensions are close to those of compact sedans: 4.43 meters long and 1.79 meters wide. Yet, the pickup offers a five-meter bed and a 7-liter frunk. Payload capacity is about 635 kg, with towing up to 450 kg.

The accessory range exceeds 100 items, from lift kits and decorative wraps to a conversion kit that turns the pickup into an SUV with an extra row of seats and airbags.

Production is organized in Indiana at a repurposed plant. Pre-orders have surpassed 150,000, indicating strong interest in this simple and inexpensive EV solution.
