Top used cars under €12,000: diesel, hybrid, and electric options

With a budget of €12,000, buying a 'fresh' car less than five years old is no longer possible today. However, the used market still offers genuinely interesting options. The choice spans several segments, from premium models to hybrids and electric vehicles.

Audi A4 2.0 TDI 150 (from 2014) provides an excellent entry into the premium world. The 150 hp diesel engine, having been updated, has shed the issues of early versions and remains economical at around 6.4 L/100 km. For about €12,500, you can find a well-maintained Business Line model with around 150,000 km on the clock. It's best to aim for versions no lower than the Ambiente trim.

Dacia Jogger 1.0 ECO-G is a practical family choice running on petrol and LPG. 2022 versions with around 90,000–100,000 km cost approximately €13,000. The LPG system helps lower running costs, and even the Comfort trim already includes air conditioning and cruise control.

Renault Kadjar 1.6 dCi 130 is an underrated crossover. For €11,800–12,000, you can get a 2016 Intens version, which comes well-equipped and features a reliable diesel engine.

Toyota Auris Touring Sports 136h is a hybrid with an excellent reputation. A 2016 estate model for around €12,500 offers good fuel economy at about 5.7 L/100 km and a spacious boot.

Peugeot E-208 (136 hp) is a prime example of how electric cars are becoming more affordable. 2021 versions with around 70,000 km start from about €11,500. It has a WLTP range of up to 265 km, and in city driving with eco-mode, you can expect around 300 km.

Today's used car market presents a rare opportunity to choose between a diesel, hybrid, or electric vehicle without exceeding a €12,000 budget. The key is to check the service history and prioritize overall condition over simply seeking the lowest mileage. This approach is how you can secure a truly advantageous car.
