Audi ends S6 sedan production, introduces hybrid and electric options
Audi is discontinuing production of the S6 sedan in several key markets. The model has not been included in the new Audi A6 lineup, which is already on sale. The brand is now focusing its sporty segment on the S6 Avant and RS 6 Avant.
In Europe, the previous S6 featured a 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine with 300 horsepower, while the U.S. version offered a gasoline engine producing 362 horsepower. The new S6 will come with a plug-in hybrid setup delivering 367 horsepower and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. The placement of the battery under the rear seats and partly in the trunk area may have influenced the decision to drop the sedan body style.
Additionally, Audi has confirmed its commitment to the fully electric S6 e-tron in Sportback form. This electric vehicle boasts up to 551 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, compared to around 5 seconds for the previous diesel model.
This move is part of a transitional phase in the brand's strategy and a refresh of its model range. As a result, the 2026 sports cars in the A6 lineup will be available in hybrid and electric versions, marking the end of the classic S6 with an internal combustion engine.
