In January 2026, registrations of purely gasoline-powered cars in France dropped by 48.9%, reaching 15,329 units. Despite this decline, gasoline vehicles still account for 14.3% of the total market volume.

The Renault Clio led this segment, with sales of 2,276 units in January 2026, marking a 17.6% increase. The Dacia Sandero followed, purchased by 1,666 people in France, though this represented a 47.4% decrease. Rounding out the top three was the Volkswagen Polo, with 1,547 units sold, down 29.3%.

Other models in the top 10 best-selling gasoline cars in France for January included the Peugeot 208, Citroën C3, Opel Corsa, Skoda Fabia, Audi A1, Volkswagen T-Cross, and SEAT Ibiza.
