GMC Sierra recall update addresses rear wheel lock-up risk

GM has issued an update to a recall of GMC Sierra pickup trucks related to a risk of rear wheel lock-up while driving. The affected models are the 2020–2022 Sierra 1500, as well as the 2020 Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD.

The original recall was announced in November 2024 due to potential wear in a transmission control valve. Loss of internal pressure could lead to harsh gear shifts and brief rear wheel lock-up. It has now been discovered that some vehicles received incorrect software updates.

If the rear axle locks, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. To fix the issue, dealers will check the installed software and, if necessary, upload the correct calibration. No parts need replacing, and the work will be done free of charge.

The exact number of affected vehicles hasn't been specified. Under the initial recall campaign, 80,033 Sierra 1500 and 135,323 Sierra HD trucks were called back. Owners are advised to check their VIN status and contact a dealer.
