New Fiat Toro pickup: 2029 debut with hybrid and EV options

Fiat is preparing a new generation of the Toro pickup, with its debut expected in mid-2029. According to Brazilian sources, the model will transition to the STLA Medium platform—the same architecture used by the new Jeep Compass and the upcoming Lancia Gamma. Production will be established at the Stellantis plant in Goiânia, Brazil.

The powertrain lineup will be expanded, with plans for versions featuring a 48-volt mild hybrid system, plug-in hybrid modifications, and a fully electric variant set to arrive after 2030. In the hybrid versions, the primary internal combustion engine will be the 1.3-liter Turbo Flex 270, already familiar in the South American market.

Plug-in hybrid variants will receive the Bio Hybrid Plug-in system, capable of operating on electric power, gasoline, or in a combined mode. A seven-speed robotic e-DCT gearbox is expected, designed to handle high torque. Battery charging will occur through both regenerative braking and external sources. In PHEV versions, all-wheel drive with an electric motor on the rear axle is planned.

The new Toro will be part of the brand's strategy to develop new vehicles for 2026 and beyond, focusing on hybridizing and electrifying the model range. It remains unclear whether the model will enter the global market or maintain its focus on South America, where the current generation remains a segment leader.
