Tesla unveils refreshed Semi with better aero and autonomy
Tesla has unveiled an updated version of its Semi electric truck, first shown in 2017. The company says it now rides on a reworked chassis and a reshaped body, with revised headlights and improved aerodynamics that lift both efficiency and payload.
During the annual shareholder meeting, Elon Musk confirmed that series production of the Tesla Semi will start in the second half of 2026 at the company’s factory in Nevada. Tesla also notes the refreshed model is designed for autonomy, implying integration of next‑generation Autopilot systems.
On the outside, the tractor is said to switch to a lower windshield, a reworked front bumper, and a more rounded roofline, while the new headlights echo the look of the updated Model 3.
Tesla says the Semi will be more efficient: real-world tests have shown energy use between 1.55 and 1.73 kWh per mile. Project lead Dan Priestley explained that the upgrades draw on data from pilot operation and recent engineering work. Taken together, the aero tweaks and hardware revisions point to a truck that should waste less energy on the highway and carry a bit more where it matters.
