New Renault electric Twingo: minimalist design, €20,990 base price

Renault has unveiled the new electric Twingo, betting on minimalism and nostalgic design. The base Evolution version starts at €20,990 and offers a single powertrain with a 27.5 kWh battery.

Standard equipment includes a 10.1-inch multimedia system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, but without the Google services integration available in the more expensive Techno version. Externally, the base model features steel wheels and simplified trim details.

Technically, the model comes with fast charging up to 50 kW, which is a plus for the segment. However, for a more modern set of options—adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, and automatic climate control—you'll need to pay an extra €1,600, with additional features pushing the price even higher.

Against this backdrop, the European strategy looks cautious compared to Chinese models like the BYD Seagull, which offer advanced driver assistance systems and more sophisticated electronics for less money in their home market.

Renault is focusing on design and urban practicality, but in the face of growing competition in the affordable EV segment, the question is broader: is minimalism enough in 2026, when technological standards worldwide are rising rapidly?
