2027 Silverado and Sierra pickups may add cornering lights to fog lights
General Motors is preparing the next generation of full-size pickups, and recent spy photos reveal an interesting detail. Prototypes of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 will likely feature fog lights with an added cornering light function.
A test mule of the 2027 GMC Sierra AT4 showed a distinctive characteristic: when turning right, only the right fog light illuminated while the left one remained off. This type of asymmetry is typical of cornering light systems, where a separate light activates at low speeds to improve visibility of the inside of a turn.
If this assumption proves correct, GM could eliminate a separate cornering light module and use the fog lights in a dual role. Additionally, their placement appears to have shifted closer to the outer edges of the bumper, which would further enhance lighting effectiveness in turns and give the front end a more substantial look.
Beyond changes in lighting, the next-generation Silverado and Sierra will get a completely redesigned interior, GM's latest digital technologies, and a new sixth-generation Small Block V8 engine. A hybrid version is also expected. Even details like fog lights are becoming part of intelligent lighting systems.
In the 2027 automotive segment, safety and functionality are taking center stage. If GM implements adaptive cornering lighting without complicating the design, it would be a practical and logical move.
