Stellantis launches electric Opel Corsa GSE hot hatch

Stellantis is launching an electric version of the hot hatchback Opel Corsa GSE. Prototypes have already been spotted testing, with an official debut expected by year's end. This model will be a twin to the Peugeot 208 GTI and will feature a fully electric powertrain.

Preliminary data suggests the Corsa GSE will be equipped with a single electric motor on the front axle, producing around 278 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque. It will come with a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential and a retuned suspension. The 0-100 km/h sprint is anticipated to take about 5.7 seconds, which is quicker than most gasoline-powered rivals.

Carscoops

The hatchback will be powered by a 54 kWh battery pack, already familiar from the Mokka GSE and 208 GTI. It should deliver a range of roughly 350 km on the WLTP cycle, putting it closer to the Peugeot than the heavier Mokka.

Visually, the newcomer will sport alloy wheels, yellow brake calipers, a lowered stance, and aggressive bumpers. Its main competitor will be the upcoming electric VW ID. Polo GTI with 223 horsepower, along with Mini and Alpine in the compact EV hatchback segment.

The return of the GSE badge signals Opel's shift to an all-electric format for its performance models, intensifying competition in the compact sports EV market.
