Nissan Serena e-Power launches in Malaysia with 5 variants

The sixth generation of the Nissan Serena minivan has debuted in the Malaysian market. The new model will be offered to local buyers in 5 variants, starting from 154,800 ringgit.

The most significant change in the new C28 generation Nissan Serena, compared to its C27 predecessor, is its e-Power powertrain. This setup features a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated inline three-cylinder gasoline engine, the HR14DDe, producing 98 horsepower and 123 Nm of torque. This engine acts solely as a generator for a 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor between the front seats.

That 1.77 kWh battery powers an electric motor with 163 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels. The previous C27 Serena model was equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, the MR20DD, producing 150 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. It drove the front wheels via a CVT, aided by a mild-hybrid configuration where a 2.6 horsepower, 48 Nm motor served as a starter-generator and handled energy recuperation.

Driving modes available for the new model include Eco, Standard, and Sport, each offering a different level of regenerative braking.

For the chassis, the new Nissan Serena e-Power benefits from an upgraded front suspension based on an SUV design, along with a 20% stiffer anti-roll bar to better suppress body roll and lateral sway. Furthermore, suspension component stiffness has been increased by 50%, while improved friction control and steering system rigidity mean drivers need to make steering corrections 23% less often compared to the C27 Serena.

Inside, the new Nissan Serena e-Power gains an instrument panel with dual 12.3-inch displays in its three most expensive trim levels: one for the instrument cluster and another for the touchscreen Nissan Connect infotainment system. The system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and rear-seat passengers have access to a 14-inch entertainment monitor.
