Volvo XC90 named best luxury family SUV in 2026 awards
The Volvo XC90 has once again been named one of the best family cars in the United States, securing two awards in the Parents Best Family Car Awards 2026. It won in the categories of Best Luxury Midsize 3-Row SUV and Best Luxury Hybrid / Plug-In Hybrid.
This marks the third consecutive year the XC90 has been included in Parents' list of top family vehicles. In 2025, the model was recognized as the best plug-in hybrid, and in 2024, it was honored as the best hybrid for families.
The XC90 is available in configurations for six or seven seats. The seven-seat version can be equipped with a built-in integrated child booster in the second row. Standard features include advanced driver assistance systems, such as rear collision warning and a cross-traffic alert system.
The Plug-In Hybrid version offers up to 32 miles of electric-only range according to EPA estimates, with a total range of up to 532 miles. The base price for the 2026 model year XC90 starts at $62,445, while the hybrid version begins at $77,595, including destination fees.
This model combines Scandinavian design, premium interior materials, and built-in Google services, along with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
This three-year winning streak strengthens the XC90's position in the luxury family SUV segment, especially as competition intensifies from models like the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and hybrid offerings from Lexus. For Volvo, this is strategically significant, as the XC90 remains a key flagship in the U.S., where demand for three-row SUVs remains consistently strong. A key competitive advantage lies in its blend of hybrid efficiency and a comprehensive suite of safety features, making it appealing to families seeking premium options without fully committing to electric vehicles.
