Geely introduces EX5 electric and Starray EM-i hybrid SUVs to Spanish market

Geely has officially launched sales in Spain and announced prices for its first two SUVs: the electric EX5 and the plug-in hybrid Starray EM-i. The brand positions these models as technologically advanced and affordable options in the New Energy Vehicles segment.

The Geely EX5 is a compact electric SUV measuring 4.62 meters in length. It features an electric motor with 160 kW (218 hp) of power and two battery options: 60 kWh and 68 kWh. The maximum WLTP range reaches 475 km. Fast charging allows the battery to replenish from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes. Prices start from 37,490 euros.

The Starray EM-i is a larger D-SUV at 4.74 meters, equipped with a hybrid powertrain producing 262 hp, developed in partnership with Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Geely and Renault. Battery options include 18 kWh and 28 kWh units. It offers a maximum electric range of 135 km and a combined WLTP range of up to 943 km. Pricing begins at 33,990 euros.

In terms of pricing, the EX5 is positioned close to the Skoda Enyaq 60, while the Starray EM-i directly competes with the BYD Seal U DM-i, offering a lower price and greater electric autonomy.

Geely's entry into Spain highlights a strategy of price pressure within the Chinese segment. The EX5 aims to compete not only with European brands but also with other Chinese players like Leapmotor and BYD. The Starray EM-i stands out for its 135 km electric range, making it one of the longest-range PHEVs in its class. This detail matters because it could appeal to buyers hesitant about switching to a full electric vehicle.
