Ford Focus RS values double: the modern collectible hot hatch
The Ford Focus RS has unexpectedly turned into a collectible. In just a few years, its value has doubled: a 2018 example with only 3,000 km on the clock sold on Bring a Trailer for $52,500—nearly twice its original sticker.
The reason is straightforward: scarcity. Only about 13,000 cars were sold in the U.S., and each one is now fiercely sought after, report journalists at 32CARS.RU. Under the hood sits a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine with 350 hp, paired with all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox only. It sprints to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the signature Nitrous Blue paint and Recaro seats make it instantly recognizable and all the more desirable.
According to Classic.com, well-kept, unmodified examples start at $35,000 and climb from there. In the spirit of the BMW 1M and Honda Civic Type R, the Focus RS has become a marker of an era when feel and mechanical involvement meant more than software. Today, people buy it less for headline speed and more for that unfiltered driving hit—something that’s getting rarer in the modern car world, and, judging by the market, is priced accordingly.
