Updated Toyota bZ4X 2026 offers longer range and enhanced practicality

Toyota has unveiled the updated 2026 bZ4X, focusing on increased range, powertrain refinements, and enhanced practicality. The lineup now offers two battery options: 57.7 kWh and 73.1 kWh. The base front-wheel-drive version with a 167 hp motor delivers up to 444 km of range under the WLTP cycle. The main highlight is the 73.1 kWh front-wheel-drive variant with 224 hp, which achieves 569 km on 18-inch wheels. The all-wheel-drive model produces 343 hp and offers up to 516 km.

DC fast charging at up to 150 kW can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes. AC charging options include 11 kW and 22 kW. For the first time, a battery preheating function is standard, improving charging stability in cold conditions. The powertrain electronics now feature SiC semiconductors for greater efficiency. The all-wheel-drive version can tow up to 1,500 kg, a significant advantage for family buyers.

The drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.29 to 0.27. Inside, there's a 14-inch screen, an updated Digital Island center console, and a digital key. Cargo space measures 452 liters, expanding to around 1,500 liters with the rear seats folded.

In Spain, the long-range version starts at €39,375, while the AWD model begins at €46,925. Overall, the bZ4X update shows Toyota opting for an evolutionary approach rather than a radical platform change. The increased range up to 569 km and the 1,500 kg towing capacity bring the model closer to European rivals, though charging power remains below some newer market entrants. For Toyota, building trust in the EV segment is more important than chasing records—the focus is on reliability, warranty programs, and practicality rather than extreme performance figures.
