Toyota Hilux EV unveiled: 300 km range, specs, design, and future diesel and hydrogen plans
Meet the electric Toyota Hilux: 59.2 kWh battery, 300 km range, reworked design and cabin. Diesel variant due in 2026, hydrogen model planned for 2028.
The unveiled Hilux arrives as a double-cab pickup measuring 5,320 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall, riding on a 3,085 mm wheelbase. The dimensions are almost a mirror of the previous generation, hinting that the platform likely carries over.
The electric Toyota Hilux uses motors rated at 196 hp and a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a claimed 300 km of range, 32cars.ru reports. The pack is mounted under the floor. In 2026, the lineup is set to add a diesel; while specifications are still under wraps, it will most likely be a 2.8-liter engine with a little over 200 hp, paired with an automatic transmission and various driveline options.
Toyota also plans a series-production Hilux with a hydrogen powertrain, expected to reach the market in 2028, primarily for European countries.
Judging by the images, the new Hilux adopts a sharp, angular front end with slim lighting. The electric version goes without a traditional grille, while a variant with a mesh insert has already been shown where the blank panel would be—apparently the one housing an internal-combustion setup.
Inside, the cabin has been reworked in the same angular vein. There’s a large central display, a conventional transmission selector—its shape varies by powertrain—and plenty of physical buttons and toggles, including a rotary drive-mode dial. Fuel-powered versions also feature a separate lever for four-wheel-drive modes. The layout looks practical and straightforward, which suits a pickup’s mission.
