Tesla Model Y common issues and how they affect owners
1. Miniature Lamps
Early Tesla Model Y versions came with small lamps for brake and parking mode indicators. These tiny lights proved insufficiently visible to drivers behind, creating a risk of traffic accidents. This issue led to a massive recall affecting approximately 2.2 million Tesla vehicles across various models.
2. Autopilot Errors
Tesla is known for its Autopilot system, but owners frequently encounter malfunctions. The system sometimes misidentifies objects in front of the car, including pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles, increasing the likelihood of collisions. This has become one of the most common complaints among users.
3. Poor Paint Quality
Many Tesla Model Y owners report low-quality paintwork—the paint easily sustains damage even from minor contact with objects or the environment. Additionally, body panels fit poorly against each other, resulting in gaps and play that allow water to seep into the interior.
4. Failure of the 12-Volt Battery
Besides the main traction battery, the car features an auxiliary 12-volt battery that powers electronic devices and accessories. However, some vehicles suffer unexpected failures of this battery, requiring replacement and costly repair work.
5. Suspension Wear and Noise
Some Tesla Model Y owners complain about a stiff suspension accompanied by unpleasant sounds and vibrations when driving over road irregularities. Over time, rubber bushings and shock absorbers lose elasticity, leading to increased ride harshness.
6. Phantom Braking
This situation occurs when the Autopilot system unnecessarily applies the brakes, reacting to non-existent obstacles or sensors providing erroneous data. Such incidents happen suddenly and create discomfort for the driver, as they are perceived as a threat to driving safety.
7. Climate System Pump Malfunction
The car's heating and air conditioning system includes a heat pump designed to maintain a comfortable cabin temperature. However, the heat exchanger valve periodically breaks down, obstructing the normal flow of coolant and disrupting the entire system's operation.
8. Multimedia System Glitches
The Tesla touchscreen operates slowly, navigation displays incorrect routes, the interface lags, and there are difficulties connecting devices via Bluetooth. Tesla Model Y owners have repeatedly encountered such technical issues.
9. Camera Interruptions
Cameras embedded in the car's body monitor the surroundings and assist with parking and maneuvers. Nevertheless, Tesla cameras sometimes turn off spontaneously, lose image feed, or display artifacts that impair road visibility, reducing overall vehicle safety.
