Renault's new electric platform for Megane and Scenic features fast charging

Renault has unveiled key technologies that will form the foundation for the next generations of the Megane and Scenic. The centerpiece is the new RGEV Medium 2.0 electric architecture, slated for series production starting in 2028. This platform introduces an 800-volt system that significantly reduces wiring mass and enables battery charging in just 10 minutes. The available battery range will cover both high-energy-density options for up to 750 km of WLTP range and more affordable variants—both versions will be compatible thanks to a cell-to-body construction.

The platform supports not only crossovers but also low-slung hatchbacks and monovolume vehicles, effectively bringing the MPV format back into Renault's model lineup. This move caters to European demand amid growing competition from Chinese brands. Renault is also officially launching its own Range Extender hybrids: a compact internal combustion engine-generator from the joint venture Horse with Geely will provide a total driving range of up to 1,400 km.

A new Renault electric motor, producing 266 horsepower, will replace current units and deliver up to 93% efficiency on the highway. It will be 20% cheaper, avoid the use of rare-earth materials, and can be installed on either the front or rear axle.

The new Megane and Scenic will become full Software Defined Vehicles, featuring central computing architecture, fast over-the-air update infrastructure, and advanced driver-assistance systems. Meanwhile, models like the Captur and Austral on the RGMP platform will continue evolving with updated hybrid powertrains.

Renault plans to launch 22 new models in Europe over the next five years, with 16 of them being fully electric. By 2030, the brand aims to phase out internal combustion engines in Europe, retaining only hybrids as a transitional technology.
