GM leads JD Power SUV reliability ratings for 2025-2026

J.D. Power has released its latest SUV reliability ratings for 2025-2026, and the results are surprisingly dominated by General Motors. Four of the top five spots go to GM models, with compact SUVs scoring highest overall. This underscores a clear trend: simpler designs and lighter vehicles tend to last longer.

The Buick Encore GX takes first place with a record score of 90/100 for quality and reliability. Owners praise its quiet cabin and smooth handling, though some note the cramped second row. Close behind is the Chevrolet Trailblazer, a technical twin to the Encore GX. It offers better resale value and a more engaging driving experience.

In the midsize SUV segment, the Chevrolet Blazer comes out on top. It earns praise for its spacious interior and high initial quality score, though some owners have reported transmission issues. Fourth place goes to the updated Lexus GX, a traditional durability leader. Its body-on-frame construction and new V6 engine promise improved performance, but urban maneuverability remains a weak point.

Rounding out the top five is the Chevrolet Tahoe, named the most reliable large SUV by J.D. Power. Despite lower fuel economy ratings, owners highlight the durability of its 5.3-liter V8 engine and the generous interior space.
