Denza N9 and N8L get new battery for increased electric range
BYD is preparing updates for its premium Denza N9 and Denza N8L crossovers. The models will receive a new, higher-capacity battery, boosting their electric range by approximately 40%.
According to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the vehicles will be equipped with a 75.3 kWh LFP battery developed by BYD's FinDreams division. This is likely the second-generation Blade battery introduced by BYD in 2026.
Previously, the Denza N9 used a 46.9 kWh battery, while the N8L had a 46.99 kWh unit. After the upgrade, the electric range will increase to 315 km for the Denza N9 and 320 km for the more compact N8L.
However, the new battery adds weight to the vehicles. The battery itself weighs 550 kg, increasing the curb weight of the Denza N9 to 3,280 kg and the Denza N8L to 3,120 kg.
The Denza N9 is a full-size hybrid crossover measuring 5.26 meters in length. It features a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 204 horsepower, along with three electric motors delivering a combined 912 horsepower. The more compact N8L uses the same gasoline engine but has an electric system rated at around 750 horsepower.
This update should help the models strengthen their position in the Chinese market, where competition is heating up from crossovers like the Zeekr 9X, Wey V9X, and Li Auto L9.
