Audi E7X electric crossover: new model for Chinese market

The joint AUDI brand, created by Volkswagen and SAIC specifically for the Chinese market, is preparing to launch its second model. This will be the large electric crossover AUDI E7X, intended to bolster the brand's position following weak sales of the E5 Sportback estate.

Launched in 2024 for China, the AUDI brand is distinct from the classic Audi marque, notably lacking the signature four rings emblem—instead, it uses the word AUDI as its badge. Its first model was the electric E5 Sportback estate, but demand proved low, with only 723 units sold in China during the first two months of 2026.

The new E7X crossover aims to attract more buyers. The production version is built on a platform featuring a 900-volt electrical architecture. The vehicle measures 5049 mm in length, 1997 mm in width, and 1710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3060 mm.

Stylistically, the crossover follows the same design language as the E5 Sportback. It features a smooth front end, distinctive frame-shaped lighting units, retractable door handles, and cameras in place of traditional mirrors. Equipment also includes an autopilot system with a lidar sensor mounted above the windshield.

The model's interior has not yet been officially revealed, but it is expected to resemble the cabin of the E5 estate. This features a massive display that spans almost the entire width of the dashboard.

The AUDI E7X will be offered in two versions. The base rear-wheel-drive variant will have an electric motor producing 408 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive version, with two electric motors, will develop up to 680 horsepower. Buyers will be offered two battery options with capacities of 100 kWh and 109 kWh. Preliminary data suggests a driving range of between 615 km and 751 km on the CLTC cycle. The most powerful version is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.97 seconds.

The public debut of the production AUDI E7X will take place at the Beijing Auto Show, which opens in April. This new model is meant to help the brand strengthen its position in the world's largest automotive market.
