Mazda launches CX-5 with movie trailer at Oscars ceremony
Mazda unveiled its new CX-5 crossover in an unconventional way. The premiere of the movie trailer "5 Sides of the All-New CX-5" took place during the Oscars ceremony broadcast in North America.
The advertising campaign features five short stories, each inspired by a different film genre. The trailer incorporates elements of romance, action, science fiction, musicals, and horror. Mazda chose this approach to showcase various aspects of the new CX-5 and connect the vehicle with different facets of modern life.
Actress Jesami Walden-Day plays the lead role in the series of mini-films. In each episode, she portrays the same character navigating different story worlds. The CX-5 becomes part of these narratives, demonstrating its versatility across diverse scenarios. The project was directed by renowned music video director and filmmaker Paul Hunter, with cinematography by Oscar-winning cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.
According to Mazda North America's marketing director Brad Audette, the new CX-5 was designed for people with active and multifaceted lifestyles, which is why the cinematic format proved to be the most fitting way to convey the model's character.
As part of this campaign, Mazda is also collaborating with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy Gold program, which supports emerging filmmakers. The short films and behind-the-scenes content will be distributed through social media and digital platforms around the Oscars ceremony.
