Ford ends Flex Fuel in 2026 Transit van, now gasoline-only
Ford has announced it will discontinue Flex Fuel technology for the 2026 Transit van equipped with a 3.5-liter engine. Previously, this system allowed the vehicle to run on either standard gasoline or E85 fuel—a blend containing approximately 85% ethanol. This flexibility gave owners the chance to save money by choosing a lower-cost fuel option while also reducing CO2 emissions, thereby lessening environmental impact.
Now, however, the base engine in the new Transit will no longer operate on E85 blends, limiting it to conventional gasoline only.
The 2026 Ford Transit with the 3.5-liter PDFi engine delivers 275 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque. This powerplant comes standard across all model variants, including the cargo van, passenger XL van, passenger XLT van, cutaway van, and cab chassis.
