Toyota's new electric Hilux and diesel models revealed at 2026 BIMS
At the 2026 BIMS auto show, Toyota unveiled the new generation Hilux, including a fully electric version. This marks one of the brand's most significant moves in the pickup segment.
The Electric Hilux Takes the Stage
The main highlight was the Hilux Travo-e, the fully electric variant. It features a 59.2 kWh battery and two electric motors: a front motor with 205 Nm and a rear motor with 268 Nm. The claimed range exceeds 300 km.
In practice, the design of the electric version stands out with a more modern, crossover-inspired style, while the rear retains the classic Hilux look. This detail matters because it highlights Toyota's effort to blend innovation with heritage.
Interior and Technology
The cabin is utilitarian with durable materials, but it comes equipped with a modern multimedia system and a digital instrument panel. Climate control and off-road mode settings remain button-operated.
Overall, the layout resembles the Land Cruiser FJ, emphasizing practicality and off-road capability. For buyers, this is important since it ensures the Hilux stays true to its rugged roots while adding tech features.
Diesel Stays in the Game
Alongside the electric version, Toyota presented the classic Hilux with a 2.8-liter diesel engine. A GR-S version was also shown, featuring more aggressive styling and Gazoo Racing elements.
Against this backdrop, Toyota maintains a balanced approach: offering both traditional solutions and electrification. This reflects a broader trend where new vehicles combine proven technologies with a shift toward electric power.
