Lamborghini's new 4-seat GT sports car: a return to grand tourer roots

Lamborghini is considering expanding its model lineup with a new format. The focus is on a four-seat GT-class sports car that could occupy a unique niche in the brand's range.

A New Segment for Lamborghini

Company CEO Stephan Winkelmann has noted that the brand's lineup lacks a classic grand tourer. The potential model would be in a 2+2 format and serve as an alternative to existing supercars.

At the same time, the company has already ruled out producing a sedan or a compact SUV. This means the focus is squarely on a sporty yet more versatile vehicle.

Returning to Historical Roots

If the project goes ahead, it would be Lamborghini's first such car since the Espada, which was discontinued in 1978. That model was one of the brand's most successful vehicles.

The new model could compete with Ferrari, Bentley, and Aston Martin in the high-powered GT segment. This would expand the brand's audience beyond traditional supercar buyers.

Electrification Delayed but Not Canceled

Meanwhile, Lamborghini continues to work on electric vehicles, but the launch of a fully electric model has been postponed until at least 2030. The reasons are weak demand and the need for further technological refinement.

The brand wants to preserve the emotional appeal of its cars, including sound and character. As a result, upcoming releases will remain hybrid or combustion-engine models.

Overall, Lamborghini is seeking a balance between tradition and new segments, and a potential four-seat GT could become one of the most important steps in the brand's development.
