Iveco Daily prototype with Hybrid Induction Brake cuts fuel use up to 30%
Telma, Iveco and Petit Forestier have developed a prototype Iveco Daily equipped with the Hybrid Induction Brake (HIB) system. The new model will be shown at the Solutrans exhibition in Lyon and will be available for testing.
The HIB setup combines the functions of a retarder, an auxiliary electric motor and a generator. Under braking, it recuperates energy and stores it in an additional battery; during acceleration, it supports the engine and supplies power to auxiliary equipment.
According to test results, the technology cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 30%, reduces service brake wear by 90%, and lowers particulate emissions during braking by a similar margin.
The prototype is built on an Iveco Daily chassis with an Urban by Lecapitaine refrigerated body. Crucially, the system can hybridize combustion-powered vehicles without major redesign, a practical approach likely to appeal to fleets watching operating costs and downtime—particularly in stop-start urban delivery work where every saved stop matters.
