Omoda 5 Sport 2026: A new sports SUV from China

Chinese automakers are continuing to reshape the automotive landscape, and this time the focus extends beyond just price and equipment. The agenda now includes sporty versions that could challenge established European models.

A Sports Car Based on the Omoda

Attention has turned to a hypothetical Omoda 5 Sport for 2026, which currently exists only as a digital rendering. However, the idea itself appears quite plausible given the rapid development of Chinese brands.

This model would feature aggressive bodywork, a lowered suspension, and bold details like a diffuser, spoiler, and quad exhaust pipes. This approach already positions it in a segment previously dominated exclusively by European manufacturers.

Technology Aimed at Driving Pleasure

The expected powertrain could develop 250–300 horsepower, placing it alongside models like the CUPRA Formentor VZ Extreme and Volkswagen Golf GTI. Notably, the focus is on a conventional turbocharged petrol engine without any electrification.

To unlock its full potential, transmission upgrades would be necessary, including faster shifts and paddle shifters. A mechanical limited-slip differential would also be a crucial element, enhancing handling and traction.

The Main Advantage is Price

If such a project reaches series production, the key factor will be cost. According to preliminary estimates, the model could be priced below €40,000, making it significantly cheaper than its European rivals.

In that case, Omoda could alter the balance of power in the sporty crossover segment. If the brand decides to take this step, the market might gain one of the most affordable and powerful SUVs in its class.
