Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe major update with hybrid AMG 53

Mercedes-Benz has rolled out a major update to the GLE and GLE Coupe, an overhaul the company internally describes as nearly a generational change. The key revisions focus on the interior, technology, and powertrains.

The interior has been almost completely redesigned. At its heart is the Superscreen, which integrates multiple displays, including a 14.4-inch screen and two 12.3-inch ones.

New seats and an updated steering wheel with physical switches have been introduced. In the seven-seat version, practicality is enhanced—the second row can be adjusted to increase space in the third row.

The standout addition is the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, which delivers up to 577 horsepower in its hybrid variant. This version pairs an inline six-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 31.2 kWh battery.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds, making it quicker than the gasoline-only model. Meanwhile, the electric-only range reaches about 90 km.

The lineup still includes diesel and gasoline versions, including a V8 with 530 horsepower.

Externally, the GLE features a new bumper, grille, and revised lighting. AMG versions stand out with more aggressive bodywork and four exhaust pipes.

The suspension has been refined: AMG models get their own settings, and the all-wheel-drive system is now more focused on handling.

In its new form, the GLE AMG 53 is no longer a compromise between comfort and dynamics. Instead, it aims to blend these two worlds into one vehicle. Essentially, Mercedes is doing what was once thought impossible: turning a large family SUV into an alternative to sports models without sacrificing practicality.

Notably, the hybrid version has emerged as the most powerful—a clear signal that the future of fast cars lies not with pure V8s but with complex powertrains. In this context, the GLE serves as a bridge between traditional AMG models and the fully electric vehicles set to replace them.
