Hyundai Staria and Load get hybrid version and updates

Hyundai has refreshed its Staria minivan and its commercial variant, the Load. The key updates include a new hybrid powertrain, along with design and technology enhancements.

Powertrain Lineup

The standout addition is a hybrid version that delivers 241 horsepower. This complements the existing gasoline and diesel options, broadening the choices available across different markets.

The base diesel engine produces 174 horsepower, while the gasoline variant offers up to 268 horsepower. Looking ahead, the model is set to receive a fully electric version as well.

Comfort and Technology

The top-tier Staria Lounge is aimed at the premium segment. Inside, it features Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated seats, the ccNC digital system, and smartphone access.

Design updates are also part of the refresh, with a more restrained radiator grille and a redesigned interior.

Sales Geography

Despite interest in the minivan segment, the model still isn't sold in the United States. Its main markets are Asia and Australia, where demand for such vehicles remains consistently strong. This makes the Staria a niche product with limited global reach.

The Staria's story highlights how automakers are increasingly creating regional hits. Similar cases include Toyota with the Alphard or Volkswagen with the Multivan—strong models that aren't global players. In practice, this means the market is fragmenting: instead of universal cars, we see products tailored to specific countries. And sometimes, the most interesting ones never make it to the largest markets.
