Volkswagen recall for 2025 Jetta and Taos instrument cluster issue
Volkswagen Group of America has announced a major recall of 75,323 Volkswagen Jetta and Taos vehicles from the 2025 model year in the United States. The campaign is registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under number 26V185.
What's Behind the Recall
The recall stems from a software glitch that can cause the digital instrument cluster to fail when starting the car. This failure means critical information like speed, engine RPM, transmission mode indicators, and warning signals may not be displayed.
This issue violates the federal standard FMVSS No. 101 "Controls and Displays," increasing the risk of an accident by depriving the driver of essential vehicle status information.
Which Models Are Affected
The recall covers 75,323 vehicles, including 39,081 Volkswagen Jetta sedans and 36,242 Volkswagen Taos crossovers from the 2025 model year. Production of the affected Jetta models ran from September 2024 to July 2025, while the Taos models were built from November 2024 to June 2025.
The root cause is an error from supplier Visteon, involving incorrect operation of non-volatile memory (NVM) in the instrument cluster software.
How the Defect Will Be Fixed
To address the problem, dealers will update the instrument cluster software and, if necessary, replace the cluster free of charge. Owner notifications will begin on May 22, 2026, and VIN codes for the affected vehicles are already available for checking on the NHTSA website.
Until a final solution is in place, dealers are instructed to inform customers about the potential failure and inspect vehicles when owners bring them in.
