BMW iX3 LWB for China: 2026 production, more rear comfort

BMW is speeding up the rollout of its Neue Klasse family. Hot on the heels of the new iX3, the brand is preparing several electric additions, including a long‑wheelbase crossover built exclusively for China. Known internally as NA6, the model is already in final testing in Europe, even though it won’t be sold there. Prototypes have been spotted at the Nürburgring, where engineers are honing handling and efficiency, while trials in China will concentrate on comfort. The track work hints that the stretch isn’t meant to dull the car’s character.

The headline change is the extended wheelbase. The global iX3 measures 2,897 mm between the axles, and the Chinese version is set to gain roughly the same 110 mm as the local gasoline X3. That should notably open up rear legroom, and the cabin will add extra premium touches: a deeper seatback recline, adjustable thigh support, wireless charging in the armrest, and upgraded ambient lighting. Unique two‑tone materials are also on the table. Together, these tweaks point to a more relaxed experience for those in the back.

Series production is slated to start in May 2026 in Shenyang. The first to launch will be the iX3 50L xDrive, followed by the 30L and 40L xDrive, with a more potent M60L xDrive expected in 2027. An X3 M with a long wheelbase isn’t planned. BMW also says the model will feature local driver‑assistance tech developed with Momenta—another sign of how central software tailoring has become in China.
