Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk returns with new Hurricane engine

Jeep is preparing to bring back one of the most off-road-capable versions of the Grand Cherokee—the Trailhawk—with its debut expected in late 2026. The new model is aimed at competing with the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Land Rover Defender.

After the lineup was updated in 2025, the Trailhawk version temporarily disappeared, but demand for it remained high. Jeep is now reintroducing the model with significant changes. Visually, the SUV will get aggressive body cladding, new bumpers with improved approach and departure angles, and signature red tow hooks.

The main innovation will be the move away from the 4xe hybrid system in favor of a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane engine. This powerplant is capable of producing up to 550 horsepower, which should substantially boost the model's performance and off-road capability.

Technically, the Trailhawk will retain key elements: all-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case, differential locks, off-road driving modes, and an adjustable air suspension. All of this makes it one of the most capable factory 4x4s on the market.

Against the backdrop of growing popularity for classic off-roaders, Jeep is betting on a proven formula—power, capability, and recognizable style. This allows the model to contend for a place among the best vehicles in its segment.

The return of the Trailhawk is a logical move for Jeep, especially given the success of its competitors. The new engine could become a key advantage, though much will depend on the balance between power, reliability, and price.
