Volvo EX90 now supports V2H bidirectional charging via dcbel Ara

Volvo announced today that owners of the new EX90 in the U.S. can now use bidirectional charging via dcbel’s Ara station. The flagship electric SUV arrives with the software and hardware needed for vehicle-to-home operation, effectively turning it into a home energy hub.

The EX90 can send electricity back to the house, making it useful during outages or capable of fully powering a home at critical moments. When plugged in and controlling household consumption through smart algorithms, it can also ease demand on the grid during peak hours. Framed this way, the EX90 comes across not just as an EV, but as a practical part of the home energy setup.

The Ara station brings home energy sources together in a single device and can charge two electric vehicles at the same time—over AC or DC. The system is designed for installation both indoors and outdoors and uses built-in AI to optimize load distribution.

Volvo emphasizes that the EX90 is becoming a key element of the brand’s electrification and smart energy strategy. Customers can already reserve the Ara Home Energy Station directly from dcbel.
