2.3 EcoBoost replaces bi-turbo diesel as Ford updates Ranger and Everest in South Africa

Ford is continuing to refresh the powertrain lineup for the Ranger and Everest. In South Africa, the brand will phase out the 2.0 EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel, mirroring earlier moves in Europe and Australia. It will be replaced by a 2.3 EcoBoost gasoline engine rated at 298 hp and 452 Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic and calibrated specifically for the local market. The switch points to a more responsive character for everyday driving, while the bespoke tune suggests Ford aims to match regional preferences without sacrificing refinement.

The region will also see broader availability of the 3.0 V6 diesel, and the single-turbo 2.0 diesel will remain in the lineup. It receives a new timing chain and an updated transmission setup for the XL and XLT trims. Taken together, these changes keep a strong diesel option for those who value low-end pull, yet introduce a petrol alternative for drivers who prioritize acceleration and quick throttle response. Updated versions of the Ranger and Everest are due in the first half of 2026.
